4x4 vehicles are recommended for arrival . From San José, take Route 32 toward Limón, turn off toward Siquirres, and continue along a gravel road for 17 km.
History of Barbilla National Park
Barbilla National Park was Initially created in 1982 as a Biological Reserve , it was reclassified several times before obtaining its current status as a National Park in 1997 due to the existence of private land that the State could not acquire.
The park not only protects biodiversity, but also sites of cultural importance to the Cabécar indigenous people.
