World Oceans Day: A call to explore with intention
BY NAMUBAKShare
What is World Oceans Day and why do we celebrate it?
World Oceans Day is celebrated every June 8th as a global call to recognize the vital importance of the oceans for life on Earth. This 2025, the celebration seeks to inspire governments, organizations, and communities to act urgently in the face of the multiple threats facing marine ecosystems.
At Namubak, we believe the ocean is not just a place to be explored, but a living being to be respected. That's why we're joining this celebration with mindful diving experiences and certification programs in partnership with The Clean Wave Foundation.
The importance of the ocean for life and climate
The oceans cover more than 70% of the planet's surface and produce between 50% and 80% of the oxygen we breathe. They also absorb large amounts of CO₂, regulate the global climate, and are home to a marine biodiversity that we have yet to fully discover.
More than 2 billion people depend directly or indirectly on marine ecosystems , from small-scale fishing to eco-tourism. Celebrating World Oceans Day also means protecting these livelihoods.
What threats do our oceans face?
Climate change , overfishing , plastic pollution , and ocean acidification are seriously altering marine ecosystems. At Namubak, we see this firsthand every time we dive: fewer coral reefs , displaced species, abandoned fishing nets...
If you are interested in understanding the impact of these threats, we recommend exploring articles such as Sharks in Costa Rica: Ecological Role, Threats and Conservation , Mangroves of Costa Rica: Biodiversity and Protection , or our special on the Giant Oceanic Manta Ray: Mobula Birostris.
How we contribute from Namubak
In partnership with The Clean Wave , we organize diving experiences in sites like the Murciélago Islands , where in addition to exploring, participants receive their PADI Open Water or Advanced certification. Through these experiences, we also contribute to coral restoration, marine cleanup, and environmental education.
Every experience is an opportunity to raise awareness and take action.
How you can celebrate World Oceans Day
You can join a beach cleanup, support brands committed to protecting the planet, share important biodiversity data with your community, or simply explore the ocean with more respect. Every gesture counts.
World Oceans Day, a cause that also needs you
World Oceans Day isn't just a day; it's an invitation to take action. Because whatever happens to the ocean, sooner or later, will happen to us all.
At Namubak, we will continue to focus on experiences and products that connect with nature. Because we believe that only in this way— connection, purpose, and community —can we protect what we love most.
